Live updates on the collapse of the Uttarkashi Tunnel, November 26: In an attempt to free the 41 workers who have been trapped for the past two weeks, vertical drilling is presently taking place on top of the partially collapsed Silkyara-Barkot tunnel in Uttarkashi.
The auger machine’s blade was being cut by the plasma machine that was brought in from Hyderabad, according to Pushkar Singh Dhami, the chief minister of Uttarakhand, earlier on Sunday morning. The auger machine was stuck in an obstruction. Uttarakhand Tunnel collapse
He further stated that cutting was proceeding “rapidly” and that currently, just 14 m of the 32 m that were stuck needed to be cut. He was speaking to the news agency ANI.
The auger machine needs to be removed and cut. It looks like it will be finished in a few more hours. Manual drilling will then start, he said.
As machines are being placed on a platform on top of the tunnel, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said on Saturday that operations may resume in the “next 24 to 36 hours” due to the auger machine’s ongoing problems that have delayed the rescue of 41 laborers who have been trapped inside the under-construction tunnel for the past two weeks. Who are the Worker inside tunnel ?
The men trapped inside the Uttarkashi tunnel may have come from different states—thirteen from Jharkhand, eight from Uttar Pradesh, five from Odisha and Bihar, three from West Bengal, two from Uttarakhand and Assam, and one from Himachal Pradesh—but what brought them together was the need to go out in search of a living. There are two pay bands for those who work there: Rs 18,000 for unskilled workers like laborers or assistants, and Rs 24,000 for skilled workers like drillers or pump operators.
